BRIDGE

Bridge can be traced back to the early 16th century to a game played in England called Whist. Whist evolved with time and grew steadily in popularity. Early in the 1890s, bridge appeared on the American scene, at about the same time it was introduced in England. The game underwent many changes until Harold S. Vanderbilt perfected a new form of bridge in 1925. It incorporated many of the most popular principles and also produced a scoring table. His game of "Contract Bridge" then became the staple diet of card players.

The Bridge Section consists of a group of dedicated players who hold regular practice sessions on Tuesday evenings at the Tessensohn Room. New players are welcome to join the section and participate in introductory courses and inter-club tournaments.
