Update On Singapore Grand Prix Race In September

2008 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

After months of intense negotiations with key officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and race organisers, Singapore GP Limited (SGP Ltd), SRC and SCC have reached an agreement that allows a limited number of members of both clubs to enter their respective Clubhouses.

SGP had earlier offered 550 three-day walkabout passes valued at $168 each to both clubs, on condition that each club buys 250 additional walkabout passes. Our clubs will now get 700 such passes. The same passes and proof of membership by way of a membership card, will allow SRC members entry into the race circuit and onward entry to the Clubhouse through a designated “gate” built by SGP. Without this combination of passes and membership cards, members will not be allowed entry into SRC. This is a ruling stipulated by MTI. Accordingly, no guests will be allowed entry into SRC.

The Management Committee plans to charge a nominal fee for the 700 tickets and interested members will have to enter a ballot for the passes, which are not transferable and cannot be re-sold to a third party. There is a great likelihood that the highest tier of charges will be applicable for race-day, i.e. Sunday, 28 September 2008. Only principal members* of the Club will be allowed to bid for the passes. As 2,100 out of 5,500 principal members will be allowed to view the race over the three-day period, the MC is of the opinion that successful bidders will only be given one opportunity to experience the F1 race.

More details on how the tickets will be allocated will be known within a month, after the MC meets to discuss the mechanics of balloting and pricing. Activities are being planned in the Clubhouse during the race period.
