A Little Bit Of Country, A Little Bit Of Rock And Roll
SRC Holds 1st Asia Pacific Country Rock ‘N’ Roll Charity Music Festival
For 12 Beneficiaries

Thursday, 2 August 2005 – The Singapore Recreation Club (SRC) today announced that it will be holding “Let The Good Times Roll!”, an outdoor music concert on Sunday, 14 August 2005 at the NDP Stadium on the Padang, in aid of 12 charity organisations. Billed as the 1st Asia Pacific Country Rock ‘N’ Roll Charity Music Festival, the event will showcase the music of artistes from Australia, Indonesia and Japan, as well as homegrown talents.

“We hope to raise $400,000 for charity organisations, who have suffered double blows from public donations channelled to tsunami-relief, and a backlash from the recent National Kidney Foundation incident,” said Dr Johnny Goh, President of SRC and Organising Chairman for “Let The Good Times Roll”.

While charities work with the National Council of Social Services and Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports towards greater transparency of accounts, Dr Goh stressed that “we must not forget the poor and destitute in Singapore – the people who deserve our help and are dependent on the charities for handouts.”

Asia Pacific’s Best Country Talents

Some of Asia Pacific’s best country music talents will be performing at the Padang, including Lucky Oceans’ Western Swing All Stars from Australia, Charlie Nagatani & the Cannonballs from Japan and Tantowi Yahya & The Old Friends from Indonesia. All have graciously reduced their appearance fees for the sake of charity.

Lucky Oceans, used to be a member of the famous American band, Asleep at the Wheel. He has been nominated for six American Grammy awards, and has won the Grammy award twice, for ‘Best Country Instrumental.’

Charlie Nagatani is an American Academy of Country Music 2004 Jim Reeves Memorial Awardee and organiser of 'Country Gold' - Japan's annual International Country Music Festival.
Tantowi Yahya sings and hosts a weekly show, together with The Old Friends on Indonesia’s Metro TV.

Singapore’s Finest

Babyboomers can relive the heydays of the local music scene with rare appearances from country stalwarts Matthew & The Mandarins and X-Press, as well as rockers Derrick & The Thunderbirds and The Best of Speedway and Tania, featuring original band members of Speedway with Zul (Tania).

Younger Singaporeans can look forward to seeing Don Richmond – Skrooloose & Cheryl Miles. Mandarin songs will also by sung by Serene Wong and Joe Tay.

Ballroom dancing will also be demonstrated through four upcoming dance talents under the age of 14 – Ng Wey Keen & Edna Lee and Deon Chan & Isabelle Tay, Singapore’s latin junior and latin juvenile champions respectively.

Guest Of Honour

Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports is the event’s Guest Of Honour.
