FLASHBACK
Women’s Wing & The TSAO Foundation/Awaken Talk:
Understanding Ageing and Restoring Physical & Emotional Equilibrium
Saturday, 2 August 2008
Lounge 1883, 2pm
Mr Roland Cheong, our speaker from The Tsao Foundation, addressed the audience on various aspects of ageing faced by the elderly. Instead of bombarding the audience with facts and figures on ageing issues, Mr Cheong engaged the audience with his personal experiences and those of the elderly Singaporeans struggling with the physiological, mental, social and the emotional challenges of ageing.
He also shed some light on the secret to successful ageing and encouraged the participants to incorporate more productive activities into their lives as he believes that “it is never too late to make changes to live a healthier life”.
Our second speaker, Ms Michelle Ayn Tessesohn, a therapist-cum-healer from the Awaken, explained how Shiatsu (Japanese healing art of finger pressure) healing can help to remove stress, anxiety, tension, headaches as well as promote good health, especially in the elderly. There are also courses in which she teaches how to use the meridians to balance a person's psychological and physical systems so that the body will be in a greater position to heal itself and thus, slow down the ageing process.
What can I say? Growing old does breed challenges but it also yields rewards. All in all, it was an enriching session with lots to learn for all who attended.
