24th Inter-Club Balut Competition Finals

The fourth round of the 24th Inter-Club Balut Competition beckoned as the SRC Balut players turned out in full force. With the SRC flag flying high, they marched their way to NUSS to shake, annihilate and etch their names in stone!

Before the round started, the NUSS Balut Convenor, Raj, announced that Tanglin Club (TC) Team 2 (7,092 points), SRC Team 1 (7,067 points) and NUSS Team 1 (6,996 points) were in the running for the Champion Team title! SRC Team 3 (6979 points) was not far off!

Our very own G Prakash had the chance to win the individual overall champion title, with his lavish stash of 1,865 points, with NUSS’s Thomas Lee breathing down his neck with 1,837 points and our very own Balut Convenor, Yvonne Pereira, not too far away with 1,816 points. For certain, Terence Shepherdson, who was sitting pretty with 684 points, was vying for the Highest Total Aggregate in a Single Column. First blood drawn!

Title hopes were raised prior to the round as everyone was injected with much euphoria that they could not wait to showcase their best! The first rattle soon ensued and signalled the start of Round 4.

The usual din added to the atmosphere as players shifted chairs and grabbed tight their pencils as they awaited their favourable fates ruled by the unpredictable dice. It was an exciting round, with pencil and nail biting moments aplenty. Our players were on a roll (pun intended!) as they started raking in points after points to add up to their personal as well as team tally!

Tanglin Club (TC), Singapore Cricket Club (SCC and both SRC Teams 1 & 3 were neck-to-neck in scores throughout the whole night! SCC Team 4 (2,483 points) eventually emerged as Champions for the Month, followed by SCC Team 5 (2,364 points) and our very own SRC Team 3 (2,357 points).

Before the overall results were announced, tension was already mounting. All were eager to know who will emerge as the eventual winner after several months of intense competition.

The formidable four of Ruby Ng, Richard Kee, Terence Shepherdson and Yvonne Pereira, who represented SRC Team 3 performed admirably and eventually clinched the Runner-Up spot with 9,336 points. They were equally surprised at the announcement! TC Team 2 took the champion spot with 9,352 points.  A mere 16 points separated the two! Finishing third was NUSS Team 3 with 9,265 points.

However, it was not all gloomy for SRC as they did win some accolades. Peter Chen won a Spot Prize for 4 x 4s in One Throw, and Henry Wong won the Lowest Score in a Single Game with 44 points. With the Highest Aggregate in a Single Column prize under his belt, Terence Shepherdson went on to become the Overall Individual Champion of the Year with the Highest Aggregate of 1,926 points while G Prakash emerged as Runner-up with 1,897 points.
