Tri Nations 6 Team Snooker Championship 2008

Singapore Cricket Club

The Singapore Cricket Club was the host to the second Tri Nations 6 Teams Snooker Championship. As in the previous year, the event attracted a total of six teams from three countries - Royal Bangkok Sports Club (RBSC) and Royal Bangkok Polo Club from Thailand, Royal Selangor Sports Club and Sandakan Recreation Club from Malaysia, Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) and Singapore Recreation Club (SRC) from Singapore. It was a chance for all players and friends to meet up again exactly one year on the same weekend.

The matches were played over a round robin system and this year, SRC also had the privilege to co-host some of the matches played. SRC, represented by Terence Tham, Lim Jia Sheng, Aaron Yip, Sean Ang and Brian Koh, finished the group stage with a perfect 5 wins from 5 matches. Coming in a close second was SCC, followed by RBSC and Royal Bangkok Polo Club in third and fourth places respectively.

In the semi-finals, SRC played against RBSC, while the host squared up against the Polo Club. The matches started at a tense pace but our boys, who were tagged the favourites to win, lived up to their name and overwhelmed RBSC 6-0. Meanwhile, SCC beat the Royal Bangkok Polo Club 4-2 in a closely fought match. For the second year running, the final was an all Singapore affair between the teams across the Padang.

Despite playing against the home crowd, SRC fired on all cylinders for a convincing 4-0 victory. The team received the 18-kilogram championship trophy and exchanged high fives for clinching a successful championship win!
