SRC Getaway Cum Charity Line Dance Visit to Johor Bahru
16 to 17 August 2008
Johor Bahru, Malaysia
17 August was the day SRC Line Dancers danced into the hearts of the Spastic Children of Johor Bahru. It all started when YM Tunku Yan Nazihah Binte Tunku Laxamana Nasir, Chairman of The Spastic Children Association of Johor Bahru, invited us to her Charity Line Dance in aid of the Spastic Children’s Association of Johore. In true spirit of caring and giving, our Line Dance Section responded with a contingent of 57, led by Convenor, Mrs Margaret Wee.
We were very honoured to have with us, our President Dr Johnny Goh, Vice-President Capt Francis Koh, Entertainment Vice-Chairman Mr Ronald Wee, GM Mr Abdul Rashid and the President of Country Line Dance Association (Singapore), Mr Michael Pang.
We were given a warm welcome by Tunku Yan and the Organising Committee, who definitely put in a lot of effort to make us very comfortable. Logistics pertaining to transport, lodging, food and even excursions were all undertaken by our host!
Firstly, we visited the Abu Bakar Museum, followed by a seafood lunch at Kukup. We then headed to Tanjung Piai, Johor’s National Park located at the southernmost tip. Our visit to the fruit farm proved to be very refreshing as we tucked into several varieties of fruits in season with the compliments of the owner.
Next, to the delight of the ladies, we made a beeline for the Sutera Shopping Mall, which was only opened recently. In the evening, we were served a sumptuous Chinese dinner and enjoyed karaoke sessions at Danga Palace Restaurant. Our host gladly entertained us with several popular Chinese songs, while our SRC “Idols” (including yours truly, who coughed more than he sang) responded with gusto as well. Indeed, it was an electrifying evening, which everyone enjoyed!
The next day, we went to the Royal Johor Country Club (RJCC) for The Charity Jam. Our Line Dance Section presented an item “Greased Lightning”, which had the crowd cheering and applauding. Many SRC members contributed generously to the Sales Booth put up by the Spastic Children’s Association. Sadly, we had to leave our newfound friends at 3pm to beat the congestion at the Causeway.
Kudos to the host for their warm hospitality and a job well executed! A big thank you to all participants, for your loyal support and more importantly for helping to make this trip memorable and successful.
Did I hear someone asking, “When is the next one?”
