PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Valued Members

Bigger And Better Human Flag On The Padang!

If you were at the Club on National Day to celebrate our nation’s 43rd birthday, I am sure you would have noticed the 12,288 Young NTUC members gathered on our side of the Padang to create two new national records: The Largest Singapore Human Flag (day) and The Largest Singapore Human Flag (night). To me this was indeed a wonderful sight of human kindred coming together for a common cause, despite the heavy drizzle that threatened to dampen the participants’ spirits.

Club members were also seen partying at the Multi-Purpose Court and Beer Garden, many of whom came dressed in red to support the Nation’s National Day Celebrations. Fireworks lit the Padang sky and helicopters flew at low heights, much to the delight of spectators at our Clubhouse.

Personally, for me, it was really heartwarming to see many heartlanders who came in tow with their children to be on the Padang. Some arrived as early as 2.30pm.

Good News For Those Who Have Booked F1 Tickets By August 15

For all those who responded to the Club’s call to book walkabout tickets for the three race days, I am happy to announce that by the closing date, we had a balance in tickets. If you and your spouse had indicated to purchase a walkabout ticket, then you are assured of being given tickets for the chosen date.

The Management Committee has also decided to proceed with a second round for the remaining tickets and we will be opening the three dates again for members to book, subject to the rule of first-come-first-served. Do look out for a circular from the Club on the new offer and do take note that the closing date is September 5th, 5pm.

2nd SRC Charity Line Dance Featuring Scooter Lee From USA

After last year’s successful charity line dance event which raised $28,000 for the Jamiyah Children’s Home (Darul Ma’wa), I am again elated by the fact that our Line Dance Section together with the Country Line Dance Association (CLDAS) have decided to do a second charity project to help two charities from a minority group i.e. Jamiyah Children’s Home and Singapore Muslim Women’s Association (PPIS). The Guest of Honour for the evening is Speaker of Parliament, Abdullah Tarmugi. Do support this worthy cause by buying raffle tickets or dinner tables at Lounge 1883 on October 4th.

Padang Shield – SRC Won The Shield Again!

Sports is in my blood and in my early years I was a known “terror” in rugby and swimming! The recent Padang Shield competition was not an easy walk in the park for our competing teams, and we were gritting our teeth when the tennis teams fought it out at Singapore Cricket Club’s lawn courts. At the end of the games, SRC retained the Padang Shield much to the delight of our hardworking sportsmen and women. I was told by the President of SCC, that in two years’ time, they intend to bring the Shield back to their Club, so now is a good time for our sportsmen and women to start training!

Reciprocal Raintree Club Of KL Visit To SRC

We had the pleasure of hosting a dinner for the general committee members of The Raintree Club of Kuala Lumpur recently. Both Clubs exchanged notes and ideas on how the bond between the two clubs could be strengthen via social and sporting activities. I hope in the near future, perhaps some of our Sections can organise joint-activities to build on the relationship that we have started.

To all Moslem members and staff, Selamat Hari Raya Adil Fitri and may the new year bring joy, peace and prosperity for all mankind.

Sincerely yours

Dr Johnny Goh
President
