ROLL OF HONOUR

SRC Hunters Reclaim Championship

2008 Men’s Softball League

Sunday, 20 July 2008

The SRC Hunters have always been a feared opponent on the softball field and on 20 July 2008, they showed exactly why.

There was an air of confidence in the Hunters dugout as the umpire shouted “Play ball” to signify the commencement of the 2008 Men’s Softball league finals. The Hunters have been unbeaten on their route to the finals, having won all five of their previous matches.

During the finals, the Hunters were up against Storm, the defending champions of the Softball League. And although the Hunters beat Storm 8-1 earlier in the semi-finals, they know that the earlier victory counts for nothing now as they settle the final match on a clean slate.

The Hunters got off to a nervy start in the first inning as both sides failed to take the lead. However, the Hunters managed to quickly rediscover their prolific scoring form, led by top batters Ng Cheong Yeong, Kenny Goh and Chew Jee Boon. The team then raced to a 10-0 lead over Storm in the next few innings.

Meanwhile, the Hunters’s sound defense, anchored by Singapore pitcher Leonard Sim and 2007 SRC Softball Section Most Valuable Player (MVP) fielder Marcus Lew, managed to hold Storm down to zero runs.

The defending champions showed resilience as they came back in the 6th inning with guns blazing. They managed to chalk up three runs before the Hunters sent out hot prospect pitcher Tan Jin Hao to shut them down in the final two innings. The final score was 10-3 to the Hunters.

It was an evening of personal accolades as Ng Cheong Yeong received the best batter award and Leonard Sim the best pitcher and MVP award. But none was as sweet as finally reclaiming the title of Softball Champions for the SRC Hunters!
